wc - print newline, word and byte counts for each file

wc [-l] [-w] [-c] [file]...

Options you will use

-l, --lines
Print the line count.
-w, --words
Print the word count.
-c, --bytes
Print the byte count.

$ grep -c 502 access.log

better than grep 502 access.log | wc -l
